More About Shaud
On his role model, Barry Sanders
Shaud Williams modeled himself after one of the
most prolific and humble players ever to play
running
back in the NFL. Barry Sanders, though
short at 5’8”,
proved his size did not matter. He
dazzled his fans
and critics alike with his
explosiveness and agility.
“I would record anything that came on about Barry Sanders. I would sit down and watch it over and over, and over and over again to try and get inside his head as to ‘what did he see right here that made him do that."
Like Sanders, Williams, 5’8” and 205 pounds demonstrates athletic artistry of strength and power. Similarly built, Shaud’s legs provide a low center of mass making it difficult to bring him down. And, like the great Detroit back, Williams excels on the field in explosiveness, agility, and quick acceleration.
“Of course no one will ever be like Barry Sanders, he was one of a kind, but I would try so hard to watch his feet and watch how he would cut and figure out what he was seeing at all times on the field.”
Despite both men’s ability on the field, both share the common trademark of humility. Neither one tout themselves. Both prefer to work hard, devote themselves to the team, and remain grounded as individuals.
